Time passes, and what is left are the memories of Ovedasso:

a mountainous hamlet of the municipality of Moggio Udinese in the province of Udine
(Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy)
Ovedasso, a dream balcony overlooking nature and its beauty
The charming village of Ovedasso (Ovedasj in Friulian) lies on the slopes of mountain
Pisimoni, overlooking the right bank of the river Fella at 420 meters above sea level.
Ovedasso was a municipality on its own until 1807, when it became a hamlet of Moggio
Udinese.
Ovedasso can be easily reached by car. After crossing the river Aupa, the road continues for
about three kilometres along the “Val Alba Regional Nature Reserve” till it reaches a slight
plateau where a breath-taking landscape opens up: on the left, the limestone mass of
mountain Pisimoni dominates with its 1888 meters of height; on the right, just beyond the
scattered crop fields, the slope descends steeply through woods and rocky walls till it reaches
the bed of the river Fella where its crystalline waters flow swiftly. On the opposite bank of
the river, along the Pontebbana high road, the village of Resiutta stands out, marking the
entrance to the Resia valley. In the background, the gaze sweeps over the mountain tops:
from mountain Amariana, to the west, to the golden crests of mountain Canin, to the east,
passing through the jagged peaks of mountain Plauris.
Once reached the plateau, the village of Ovedasso lies a few hundred metres ahead. Ovedasso
is a hamlet of ancient origins: the first documentary source to make mention of the village
dates 1136 AD; however, the Roman archaeological finds (i.e., mainly objects dating back to
the Roman era) discovered during the excavations for the construction of the road that links
Ovedasso to Moggio suggest the presence of much older settlements on the plateau. The
church of S. Antonio Abate is the only tangible remaining testimony of Ovedasso’s past: it
was consecrated in the year 1434 AD by the Bishop of Concordia, Daniele Scotto.
Leaving the village of Ovedasso behind, the road continues for about five kilometres. It
passes the hamlet of Roveredo, descents and merges onto the Pontebbana high road, which
winds along the valley floor towards the ski town of Tarvisio. The road Moggio-Ovedasso Roveredo
constitutes an astonishing scenic route for (motor) bike lovers: an alternative route
within the cross-border itinerary Ciclovia Alpe Adria (Alpe Adria Cycle Route), which links
Salzburg (Austria) to Grado (Italy) and represents an outstanding example of sustainable
mobility.
Today, the rebirth of Ovedasso’s local economy is fostered by the establishment of
zootechnical techniques aimed at the exploitation of uncultivated meadows, the enhancement
of the artistic and architectonical heritage of the hamlet, as well as the work of local
associations towards the promotion of tourism.
Tourists, who want to take advantage of the Ovedasso’s wild nature and breath-taking views,
can contact the local Bed and Breakfast. Rooms for rent are also available from private
landlords. Besides the great hospitality and the astonishing wildlife, Ovedasso also offers a
series of outdoor activities. For hiking enthusiasts, Ovedasso offers a panoramic ring route
that touches the summit of mountain Pisimoni. The trail is part of the CAI Alta Via itinerary,
trail sign 423. In Ovedasso, another outdoor activity of international prestige is canyoning, which,
thanks to special trail markers, can be practised along the winding river Simon in the
“Val Alba Nature Reserve”.
